Caffeine addicts will love Vienna. The Turks left their coffee beans behind when they abandoned the city in 17th century and the locals haven't looked back since. Pop into the nearest Cafe Konditorei and you'll be swamped with all sorts of variations on the basic coffee theme. For the full Venetian experience order your cup of Joe with a great big dollop of fresh cream or on top (schalogober).
The Viennese have an extremely sweet tooth so it's traditional to order a little something to go with your coffee - usually a pastry or cake. Head for the Cafe Sacher or the Demel Konditorei for a slice of Austria's famous 'Sachertorte', a rich chocolate sponge cake with apricot jam. Your Kaffee und Kuchen will usually be accompanied by a welcome glass of water. Cafe's usually have atmospheric 19th century decor, plenty of free newspapers and a hassle-free environment that encourages long lazy afternoons
