Antwerp is a fascinating european maritime city known for its superb architecture and art. Sights not to be missed include the National Maritime Museum (Antwerp is a historic port on the River Scheldt) located in a waterfront castle, containing splendid model ships and antique maps, the Rubenshuis (where the famous 17th-century Flemish painter Pieter Paul Rubens lived), the Museum Plantin-Moretus (a printing works dating from the 17th century), and the Gothic cathedral.
