    Kauai

The 'Humu-humu-nuku-nuku-apua'a' is a fish. In fact it's the state fish of Kauai, the most northerly of the eight major islands of Hawaii. It's more commonly known as the 'Reef Trigger Fish' which is neither as much fun to pronounce or as descriptive as the Hawaiian version which means "Fish who comes out of the water and sounds like a pig". The pig part refers to the snorting noise it makes when it's brought to the surface. Personally, I think it also looks a bit porcine too. It's a big name for a little fish from such a small island. Kauai is only 32 miles (51 km) in diameter with 113 miles (182 km) of shoreline.

Kauai has been known by many names some of which you may have heard of. It was Macatea in 'Six Days, Seven Nights', sites 'A' and 'B' ('Nublar' and 'Sorna') in 'Jurassic Park' and even the whole of Africa for 'George of the Jungle'. Kauai's abundant, verdant landscape has made it ideal for cameos in many major movies, particularly its hostile and otherworldly Na Pali coastline on the north west of the island. Kauai's other key attractions are its coral-fringed, golden-stranded beaches, overlapped by coconut palms and dotted with monk seals, sea turtles and exotic birds. It is the very definition of a tropical paradise.
